Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

The Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (Lead Internal Verifier) qualification was introduced when the old V1 internal verifier course was replaced in 2010. This course will enable you to become a qualified NVQ Internal Verifier or Moderator. The qualification also acknowledges you are a qualified lead Verifier, leading a team, which can be other verifiers, assessors, and other practitioners. The course enables you to moderate any courses you are occupationally competent.

Course Structure

The Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and practice is made up of the following three units:

Unit 1: Understanding the principles and practices of internally assuring the quality of assessment

Unit 2: Internally assure the quality of assessment

Unit 3: Plan, allocate and monitor work in own area of responsibility

Course Delivery

The course is delivered by either blended learning or as classroom based. You are expected to meet all the course requirements regardless of the delivery method.

Classroom

This is the ideal course delivery as it allows all face to face teaching, support, and guidance throughout the sessions. All practical requirements of the course will need to be demonstrated and observed in real time.

Blended Learning

This mode of learning is ideal for candidates who want to complete part of the course by distance learning and in the comfort of their own home. All practical requirements of the course will need to be demonstrated and observed in real time.

Assessment of the course

The Level 4 Award in the internal quality assurance of assessment processes and practice course is assessed by a portfolio of evidence which you must compile and submit at the end of the course. You will need to support at least two assessors and carry out several quality assurance duties. There should be evidence of sampling evidence, giving feedback, standardisation, and continuous development activities. For the third unit, you need to demonstrate how you have led a team and worked in line with a work plan. You need to evidence the planning, implementation, review, and completion of the work plan.

How Long is the course?

We are often asked how quick someone can complete this course? This depends on several factors which includes your own commitment, the quality of your evidence, time, learning and assessment opportunities and your ability to study at a high level. Candidates joining the course with evidence of prior learning and credits from other qualifications will obviously be able to complete quicker than someone without. If you invest more time on the course such as 15 hours a week then you will most likely complete earlier compared to someone who commits less time. Please bear in mind that you will be required to evidence learning and participate in course activities. This is a regulated qualification that will be quality assured and monitored by awarding bodies and Ofqual.

What it means studying at Level 4?

You will be assessed at the same level as someone completing the first year of an undergraduate degree. Achievement at Level 4 reflects the ability to identify and use relevant understanding, methods and skills to complete tasks and address problems that, while well defined, have a measure of complexity. It includes taking responsibility for initiating and completing tasks and procedures as well as exercising autonomy and judgment within limited parameters. You will be expected to use references and reflect an awareness of different perspectives or approaches within your area of study or work.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to anyone who has quality assurance duties within a learning and development environment. You will be expected to have access to at least two assessors and be a team leader. You will be expected to have basic numeracy, literacy, and IT skills in line with national occupational skills for Learning and development practitioners and must hold an Assessor qualification.

Certification

This is a recognised regulated qualification that will be awarded by an Ofqual regulated awarding body. We are Accredited with Pearson Edexcel. When your portfolio of evidence has been successfully signed off by your assessor it will be forwarded for moderation. Certification normally takes place within 14 working days after successful internal and external moderation. Your certificate will be forwarded to you by first class recorded delivery.
