Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (TAQA CAVA A1) qualification is the Assessor course that allows you to assess in both a classroom and a workplace environment. With this qualification, you can assess any courses you are occupationally competent. The course has replaced the old A1 Assessor qualification and is also known as CAVA or TAQA. The course is intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace such as workshops and classrooms.
Course Structure
The level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is made up of the following three Units:
Unit 1: Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
Unit 2: Assess occupational competence in the work environment
Unit 3: Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
Course Delivery
The course is delivered by either blended learning or as classroom based. You are expected to meet all the course requirements regardless of the delivery method.
Classroom
This is the ideal course delivery as it allows all face to face teaching, support, and guidance throughout the sessions. All practical requirements of the course will need to be demonstrated and observed in real time.
Blended Learning
This mode of learning is ideal for candidates who want to complete part of the course by distance learning and in the comfort of their own home. All practical requirements of the course will need to be demonstrated and observed in real time.
Assessment of the course
The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement course is assessed by a portfolio of evidence which you must compile and submit at the end of the course. You will need to support and assess at least two candidates who are following a vocational program where there is a clearly defined assessment criterion. You will also be expected to demonstrate knowledge of assessment and carry out a minimum of four assessments that examine the skills, competence, knowledge and understanding of your two candidates. The assessments should include checking prior learning, observation of practice (in the workplace) and work products, questioning and discussions. You are free to use any other additional assessment methods except simulation. By the end of the course there should also be evidence of planning assessments, giving feedback, reviewing, participating in standardisation and continuous development activities.
How Long is the course?
We are often asked how quick someone can complete this course? This depends on several factors which includes your own commitment, the quality of your evidence, time, learning and assessment opportunities and your ability to study at a high level. Candidates joining the course with evidence of prior learning and credits from other qualifications will obviously be able to complete quicker than someone without. If you invest more time on the course such as 15 hours a week then you will most likely complete earlier compared to someone who commits less time. Please bear in mind that you will be required to evidence learning and participate in course activities. This is a regulated qualification that will be quality assured and monitored by awarding bodies and Ofqual.
What it means studying at Level 3
You will be assessed at the same level as someone completing A-Levels. Achievement at Level 3 reflects the ability to identify and use relevant understanding, methods and skills to complete tasks and address problems that, while well defined, have a measure of complexity. It includes taking responsibility for initiating and completing tasks and procedures as well as exercising autonomy and judgment within limited parameters. You will be expected to use references and reflect an awareness of different perspectives or approaches within your area of study or work
Entry Requirements
This Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement course is open to anyone who is working in a learning and development environment and has access to two candidates and assessment opportunities. You need to demonstrate competency by having qualifications or experience in the subject area you want to assess. You will also be expected to have basic numeracy, literacy, and IT skills in line with national occupational skills for Learning and development practitioners.
Certification
This is a recognised regulated qualification that will be awarded by an Ofqual regulated awarding body. We are Accredited with Pearson Edexcel. When your portfolio of evidence has been successfully signed off by your assessor it will be forwarded for moderation. Certification normally takes place within 14 working days after successful internal and external moderation. Your certificate will be forwarded to you by first class recorded delivery.
What can l do after completion?
The qualification can be used in its entirety if you are an assessor. You can go on to complete the Level 4 Award in the internal quality assurance of assessment processes and practice or Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.
